"It saddens me to see girls proudly declaring they’re not like other girls – especially when it’s 41,000 girls saying it in a chorus, never recognizing the contradiction. It’s taking a form of contempt for women – even a hatred for women – and internalizing it by saying, Yes, those girls are awful, but I’m special, I’m not like that, instead of stepping back and saying, This is a lie.
The real meaning of “I’m not like the other girls” is, I think, “I’m not the media’s image of what girls should be.” Well, very, very few of us are. Pop culture wants to tell us that we’re all shallow, backstabbing, appearance-obsessed shopaholics without a thought in our heads beyond cute boys and cuter handbags. It’s a lie – a flat-out lie – and we need to recognize it and say so instead of accepting that judgment as true for other girls, but not for you."
The Samurai Champloo (サムライチャンプルー) cosplayers that stole my heart… Thank you SO much for bringing back so many memories. T_T The anachronisms, the animation, the music, the historical knowledge that it made me search for. I fell in love with Edo Period, japanese mythology and (ukiyo-e) painting. I fell in love with the director (Shinichiro Watanabe) and THEN with Cowboy Bebop. Masaru Gotsubo’s manga. Nakazawa’s designs. Shing02. SO much jazz knowledge from Nujabes’ samples. Thank you, Jun. どうもありがとうございます！Mystline still makes me cry. I fell so much in love it took me 9 months to write a tribute song over The Final View. It took a poem’s time, and hopefully it has the beauty of one… And the dopeness of yours. T_T Hope you and Dilla will listen to it next February 7. There hasn’t been a greek tribute (that sounded ancient) so it will be my honor. R.I.P. Samurai who smells of Sunflowers.

About / FAQ / Guidelines
Are you a writer who wants to write a racially diverse story for Nanowrimo?
Do you want to participate in virtual write-ins with like-minded writers around the world?
If you answered “Yes,” then Nanowrimo in Color 2014 is for you!
This upcoming November, we’d like to have writers of color and white writers alike come together and encourage each other to write racially diverse stories. Virtual write-ins will be held all throughout November. This will include word wars, sprints, brainstorming sessions, and even general feedback opportunities.
We hope that you will make friends and continue to incorporate racially diverse characters past November, in an effort to spread awareness, and create more content for racially diverse stories.
If you’re interested, please fill out this General Interest/Participation Form and we will be in touch with more details soon!
If you have any queries or concerns, feel free to send us a message after taking a look at our FAQ.
Can I just say, that this is my favorite "thisisnot__" blog because the mods speak in very respectful tones and make very intellectual arguments. I really like the way you present information without swearing every two words and the fact that you address larger issues and focus on education than just hunting down ignorant tweens that reblog ignorantly racist things. Thank you and I will continue learning more from you about China and Chinese culture in a respectful manner.
i’ve been sitting on this ask for a while because when you guys send us comments like this, it puts us in a very uncomfortable situation. while i’m glad that you use our blog as an educational resource for your own growth, it is unfair to compare us to other blogs with similar missions. none of these blogs are run by the same people. we all have different priorities, different life experiences, different ways of handling racism, etc. to suggest that our blog is more legitimate because we don’t (usually) have an “angry” tone of voice is a way of putting down other blogs. it delegitimizes anger as a political strategy. you are essentially playing into respectability politics by emphasizing (twice!) that we have a “respectful” tone (“respectful” defined by whom?) and as such are worthy of your time, while other “disrespectful” blogs are not. which, to me, is not a compliment. i’m not here for that.
